2018 Summer Workshop Recap

Last week, I had the pleasure of facilitating this year's summer workshop at the Mount Laurel site. This year's theme focused on identifying ways individuals have gained independence from their eating disorders.

These events always feel so enjoyable to be a part of, as the alumni and the community come together in a safe space to share openly and honestly about the challenges that arise in the summer, and more specifically this year, hearing them connect around the various ways they have reclaimed their freedom away from their eating disorders.

The group amazed me through the power of their resiliency and their willingness to push past their comfort zones. A rich discussion was had focusing on how working hard, experiencing unpleasant emotions, communicating with their support systems, and identifying different aspects of life can bring someone to a place of true healing and full recovery.

Although, this time of year can bring hardships with media influences and societal pressures, after this event, I'm hopeful that our alumni community and others, who are fighting this battle, will continue to declare the important pieces of their lives they were able to regain from letting go of their eating disorders.
