Window to Self

The window to myself is arched, much like those in a church. My faith is foundational, representative of my values of family, love, and justice. My window is set in stone–strong, resilient, confident, poised, controlled, and cool. If you peer in, you will find my heart. It is bold on my sleeve. It is genuine, authentic, and real, and it bears the bruises and scars of trauma. While it was suspended in the glow of survival and blessings, beneath it smolders pain, anger and sadness. It's there where my recovery is taking place.

Gabriella's artwork is featured in The Renfrew Center Foundation's 2020 Art Calendar. Each piece of artwork in this calendar was selected because it contains a deep truth that is illuminated in beauty through the visual language. The pieces were chosen from thousands of compelling works of art that have been created in art therapy groups at The Renfrew Center. To order your copy, please click here.
