Eating disorders are complex illnesses with biological, genetic, psychological, social, and developmental roots. There is no single cause for the development of an eating disorder—at Renfrew, we emphasize that recovery is most sustainable when we target the factors that are responsible for maintaining symptoms.

The Renfrew Center Unified Treatment Model for Eating Disorders®, also known as UT, highlights the importance of courageously approaching rather than avoiding emotional experiences. This webinar will provide a review of Renfrew's UT skills, discuss the role of mindfulness in tolerating difficult emotions as well as how to "ARC it out" during a time of distress. Attendees will be prompted to reflect on short-term and long-term consequences of emotion driven behaviors (EDBs), learn how to use cognitive reappraisals to increase flexibility in thinking patterns and discuss how to break the cycle of avoidance.
