The Renfrew Center is Named 2018 Family Business of the Year by the Philadelphia Inquirer

September 06, 2018

The Renfrew Center, the nation's first residential eating disorder facility dedicated exclusively to the treatment of adolescent girls and women, was recently awarded Family Business of the Year in the large business category by the Philadelphia Inquirer for its business impact, community involvement, innovation, and growth.

Samuel E. Menaged founded The Renfrew Center in 1985 in Philadelphia, PA. Led by a staff of administrative and clinical personnel – psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, physicians, nurses and nutritionists – Renfrew's missions is to provide cutting-edge treatment to those suffering from eating disorders and bring national attention to this hidden epidemic.

In 1990, Sam opened a second residential facility in Coconut Creek, FL. That same year, The Renfrew Center Foundation was established to educate professionals and the public about eating disorders. Now with 19 facilities throughout the country, Renfrew continues to operate as a family-owned business with Sam Menaged as President and CEO, his wife Pamela working in Patient Accounts, and his daughter, Vanessa as Vice President of Professional Relations and Marketing.

The Family-Owned Business Award ceremony was held on August 23, 2018, at which Sam, Pamela and Vanessa accepted their award. The Philadelphia Inquirer recognized more than 30 family-owned businesses in various categories at the event.

According to Renfrew's Founder and President Sam Menaged, "At The Renfrew Center, nothing makes us prouder than hearing alumni success stories. Whether it's the personal letters we receive or individuals with whom we speak with, it is those stories that reconfirm our daily commitment of keeping Renfrew a family business. By doing so, we are able to ensure adolescent girls and women struggling with eating disorders receive the highest quality of care in a warm and nurturing environment."

Since 1985, The Renfrew Center, the pioneer in eating disorder treatment and research, has treated more than 75,000 adolescent girls and women with eating disorders and other behavioral health issues and trained more than 35,000 professionals. It has facilities throughout the United States in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas and works directly with most major insurance companies.
